Files of type .fon comprise a manually verified broad phonetic transcription in text format (ShortTextGrid) and can be produced, changed or viewed by means of the PRAAT software. The time markers in a .fon file are identical to those in the .ort file. For a description of the ShortTextGrid format, see the description of the .ort format. In a .fon file the same number of speaker tiers can be found as in the corresponding .ort file, i.e. a BACKGROUND and/or COMMENT tier that occurs in the .ort file is omitted.
